You’re probably familiar with the light painting technique (see more here). But how about light stencil? Have you ever heard about it?

This technique has been used by some artists worldwide, and within this modality the work of TigTab definitely deserves special attention. The Australian artist usually takes a bit of grace to derelict places, and in a quite peculiar way. With her light stencils, she decorates the ambients with a kind of art that is even more ephemeral than traditional graffiti, since it only lasts a flash of light.

The technique consists, first of all, in creating a common stencil that is placed within a box lined with aluminum foil. A light flash is then attached to the bottom of the box, so that when flashed it reveals the figure of the stencil. During this process, the camera’s shutter is held open, allowing the artist to manipulate her images right there, in real time, flashing the light several times and changing the position of the figures to compose the picture.

TigTab also has an incredible series of traditional light painting and photography, so her Flickr account is definitely worth checking.
