Drawing with a typewriter

Using a computer, it’s pretty easy to create images from letters and symbols on the keyboard. After all, there we can erase our mistakes and start it all over. That goes without even mentioning the many programs and sites that automatically convert images into ASCII art.

But doing that with a typewriter, like Keira Rathbone does, is a task for the few. Combining different letters and punctuations from the keyboard, the British artist composes diverse faces, landscapes and objects. The great advantage of her process is the overlaying of characters, which allows her to elaborate more sophisticated textures and shadings.
